The brief

The owners had lived in the flat for eleven years and knew exactly which hour of the day they liked best. Everything followed from that. The kitchen moved to the south wall, the dining table into the light, and three partitions came out so the sun could travel the full depth of the plan.

Material

Lime plaster throughout, mixed on site and burnished by hand. Floors are wide-plank Danish oak, soaped rather than lacquered so they grey gently with use. Joinery is oak with brass pulls turned by a workshop in Nørrebro.

The apartment holds the same furniture it always did. Nothing new was needed once the rooms were right.
