Reading the water
The site falls four metres to the shoreline, which meant the house could either fight the slope or use it. We used it. Living rooms sit at the top where the view is widest, bedrooms step down into the shade, and the lowest terrace is close enough to the lake to hear it.
One quarry, one block
Every wet room is cut from a single block of Candoglia marble, sequenced so the veining runs continuously from the basin to the threshold. It took two visits to the quarry and one rejected delivery to get there.
Ten windows were repositioned during construction. Each one now frames water and nothing else.
